5S is a workplace organizational method that uses a list of words to describe how to organize a work space. Those words are Sort, Straighten, Shine, Standardize and Sustain. 5S was originally developed in Japan as part of Just-in-Time manufacturing techniques. Now, 5S is being applied to a wide variety of industries. It has expanded from manufacturing to healthcare, education, government, and more. The 5S Concept certification, available exclusively through the Management and Strategy Institute, will give you an understanding of 5S methodology and how it is applied in the workplace.

No, the 5S training course includes all of the course work required to study for and pass the final exam.
You must have a basic understanding of the 5S principles so that you can accomplish tasks assigned by the 5S Sponsor. This test is open book, however it is also timed, so you will not have much time to look up answers to questions. It is very important that you study and understand the material prior to taking the test or you will not pass.
The 5S certification is not designed to make you an expert on all facets of the 5S and workplace quality initiatives. This professional development course was designed to teach someone with little to no knowledge of 5S the basic skills needed to function on a 5S team project. Many executive jobs today require that their employees have at least a basic understanding of 5S. For an example, click on this [Job Search] link to see how many positions mention the words “5S”.
The training course is self-paced. Time to complete and fully comprehend will vary with every individual. It may take several days or weeks of study before you feel comfortable to take the final test. You may take the final exam as soon as you’re ready.
